The 2013 season got off to a great start for the Crusaders. Arriving early to receive their brand new jerseys they began the match full of enthusiasm and energy.

Tom the Beautiful was first half gaolie (“Tom – he’s a wall. He once had a brain then he played rugby!) and was hit by a barrage of shots at goal only to deflect every attempt.

With Coach Garry’s encouragement from the sidelines “Don’t forget boys, we are the ones in the reddy coloured shirts”, this resulted in a great goal from Ian and celebratory handstands all round.

With a number of unsuccessful attempts at goal we looked like holding a 1 nil lead into half time, but minutes before half time Lilli Pilli placed one in the back of the net.

With coach giving the team his game plan at half time, and Kyle in goals the second half was set to be a corker and with strategic advice by Garry such as “No hugs for the opposition” and “Lift those tree trunks!” the boys gave the spectators much to cheer about. In the 25th minute, despite the rain, Tom the Beaut got the Crusaders second goal sealing the win and opening the season for the 18F’s in great style.
